Richard Arkwright, a 18th century inventor of organic cotton spinning, developed these industrial facilities to accommodate his latest technology. They were the model factories for all across the globe. The power to run these machines was supplied by the Derwent river. Derwent and they were built alongside other cotton mills. The site was eventually taken over by the present city of Derbyshire.

The industrial park program offers a variety of houses for those who wish to start their own business. They are built with metal portal frames and solid concrete floors, and feature manuall controlled up and loading doors that are separate for staff access. These are powered by just three phases of electricity, and come with EPC ratings ranging from B47 up to EPC B48.
